The notebook was delivered with a dent in the box it was shipped in and a matching dent in the (metal) Notebook cover... Please check the photos! Since the OS was cluttered with software I don't need, I reinstalled Windows 10 Home with Microsoft's ISO file. The Windows activation worked automatically with the key stored in the Notebook's BIOS. Almost all the hardware except for the camera works (with ASUS drivers).
I'm contacted the ASUS support to fix the camera issue.

Not sure why you gave this notebook 1 star due to someone (most likely Amazon) damaging the shipping box and the product

I was pretty excited when I first purchased this system. The options available for the price point were pretty hard to beat. It's fairly backwards compatible while forward looking. In other words, you get a CD drive built in, along with legacy USB ports, and an ethernet jack, while also getting USB 3 and Thunderbolt, along with DDR 4 RAM, and a pretty solid graphics card. Overall it's a solid platform.

Here is why I'm giving it 3 stars and returned the laptop-

I bought the DH71 version (without the SSD) with the intent of installing an SSD myself with better speeds for a cheaper amount than the pricier version which comes with the 128GB SSD. Did some digging on the website to see if it supported NVMe, and I picked up a Samsung 950 Pro. When I tried to install the card though the computer wouldn't recognize it at all. Initially I figured it was just a firmware issue and updating the BIOS would solve the problem. Before going down that rabbit hole I decided to contact customer support to see if I could get a definitive answer on whether or not the hardware could support NVMe. The user manual is useless, as it only specifies that there is an available M.2 port available, but specifies nothing about the available protocol that it supports.

When I spoke online with tech support, the answer they gave me basically boiled down to they didn't know what the technical specifications the laptop supported were, and that it was pretty much up to chance on whether or not the system would support either SATA or NVMe. Fairly frustrated, I figured calling would get me a little further ahead. While speaking to the rep on the phone, I pretty much got the cold shoulder and was told the tech line wouldn't give me any help regarding upgrades to the PC. After asking instead about the motherboard specifications and what kind of protocol the M.2 port supported, I got told that upgrades weren't handled on the free tech support line and I'd have to get the premier support to get help with upgrades. Needless to say I was fairly frustrated that the technical specs were not only not covered in the manual, but couldn't be answered by an actual representative.

All in all this was fairly frustrating. The laptop is good for what it is. Its a solid gaming laptop at a budget price. Naturally there are some areas that are not efficient. The system is fairly heavy, and the case is made of plastic. The mouse pad feels a bit cheap, and the keys aren't the highest quality, and the system picks up oil from your hand like a champ. In the end that didn't bother me and I was happy with what I got, until the experience and lack of support from the tech line, which led to me deciding to return the laptop.

In the end I dished out more money, picked up an XPS 9550, and couldn't be happier. It's built very well, the touchpad is great, the keys responsive, the build material solid, and the component specs are the same as the ASUS. Every single negative about the 552 is addressed with the 9550.

Excellent laptop, 5 hour battery life, with browsing and eclipse IDE open. Had some few problems after a week, with blue screen, but it was because of a software that was pre-installed, gamer...3 , the first thing I did was download the driver for the intel graphics software, and then deleted the nvdia program, and re-downloaded, that, and a short while after, I re-downloaded, the wifi driver, even though I never deleted it.
I ended up deleting the program with gamer...3, because it apparently also can cause blue screens.(had it happen). As of right now, i have yet to have any blue screens since my installing of the drivers and removing of Gamer 3. The sound is really not bad at all, and it can get really loud if you wanted to use full volume. I also prefer this touch pad over the older model, because the touch pad its 100x more smoother/ easier to click with. The screen is excellent, and its very solid in terms of build. A side note, there is extremely minimal difference from the gtx 960m vram of 2, versus 960 vram of 4. So if you dont care about a 2-4 fps difference in games, go for the 2vram.
